They could be made of Gold, Ceramic, copper or wood. A lot of them are reproductions of ancient findings.

VAT and TAX Free shopping is available on most of the big shops. A form has to be filled in the presents of your Passport and return ticket. A copy of the form has to be presented together with the receipt at the customs upon departure.
Shops generally open from 08:00-14:00 and 17:00-20:30 Tue, Thu, Fri. and 09:00-15:00 Mon, Wed, Sat. except department stores, Tourist shops, Cake shops which are open longer. Most shops also closed during most of the month of August.

PLAKA area is most common for shopping. The famous neighborhood with the narrow streets the colorful shops, the churches and the many souvenir shops can keep you busy for a whole day. Many cafe and Taverns are also located in the Plaka area.

MONASTIRAKI is a continuation of Plaka . It is famous for its flea market and the antique shops dated back before the World War II. Traditional folk art, crafts and souvenirs from marble and clay.

KOLONAKI is the richest neighborhood overlooking the city with famous brand name deluxe shops.
During the winter months of January and February and the summer months of August and September big sales up to 70% are available in all the shops.

ERMOU is a shopping district next to Plaka area with a big variety, and good bargains. Modern department stores with world known fashion and boutiques are gathered there.

KIFISIA is a modern expensive residential area where you will find shopping malls with famous department stores and fashion boutiques that can compete with any City.
